The title Hrimthursum refers to the frost giants of Norse mythology, a recurring subject in Necrophobic's work alongside its anti-Christian themes. The fifth studio album originally appeared in 2006 on Regain Records and runs to twelve tracks, from "The Slaughter of Baby Jesus" and "I Strike With Wrath" to "Eternal Winter" and the title song. Sebastian Ramstedt and Johan Bergebäck played guitar, Tobias Sidegård sang and played bass, and Joakim Sterner drummed. For the 2022 reissue Dan Swanö remastered the album at Unisound Studio.
