Spawned by Evil originally appeared in 1996 as a taster for the album Darkside. Alongside the title track it carried three covers that show where Necrophobic came from: "Die By the Sword" by Slayer, "Nightmare" by Venom, and "Enter the Eternal Fire" by Bathory. The band name itself is reportedly taken from a Slayer song too, off Reign in Blood from 1986. The 2022 reissue expands the four original tracks to ten, with two previously unreleased songs and four demo recordings from 1994. Dan Swanö handled the remaster at Unisound Studio.
