Dark Matter is Pearl Jam's twelfth studio album, released on 19 April 2024 through Monkeywrench and Republic Records. The band recorded it at Shangri-La in Malibu with producer Andrew Watt, who had the five members walk into the studio without finished songs and without their own instruments; everything was down in three weeks. The result leans on tight interplay and a direct, hard guitar sound, with the title track, 'Running' and 'Wreckage' as singles. 'Dark Matter' and 'Wreckage' both went to number one on the US Mainstream Rock Airplay chart — the first time the band had topped it since 'Given to Fly' in 1997. The album earned three Grammy nominations, including Best Rock Album.
