Release is the eighth Pet Shop Boys studio album and the most guitar-driven work in their catalogue: Johnny Marr plays electric and acoustic guitar on seven of the ten songs. Originally released in 2002, it pushes the synthesisers into the background in favour of songs such as "Home and Dry", "I Get Along" and "London", written around everyday stories about relationships, politics and immigration. The exuberant dance music listeners were used to from the duo gives way to a quieter, more acoustic sound.
