The Wall was Pink Floyd's eleventh studio album, released in 1979 and written largely by bassist and singer Roger Waters. The concept album told the story of rock star Pink, who retreated behind an imaginary wall after childhood traumas, the loss of his father in the war and growing alienation from fame. Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 became the band's first number one hit in numerous countries. Comfortably Numb, Hey You and Run Like Hell were also among the album's best-known tracks. Production was handled by Bob Ezrin, David Gilmour and Waters himself. In 1982 Alan Parker turned the album into a film starring Bob Geldof as Pink. The Wall went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all time.
