Purple Rain was Prince's sixth studio album and the first credited to Prince and The Revolution. It originally appeared in 1984 as the soundtrack to the film of the same name, in which Prince played the lead. Funk, rock, pop, and gospel run through one another, and with "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy", "I Would Die 4 U", and the title track the album produced four of his best-known songs. Prince and the band won two Grammy Awards for it, and the score took the 1985 Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. On the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list Rolling Stone published in 2020, Purple Rain sits at number 8. This edition is an LP pressed as a picture disc, a replica of the Mexican pressing with an English-language tracklist.
