Prince named his second album simply after himself; it originally came out in October 1979, eighteen months after his debut. Again he wrote, played and produced almost all of it alone, but the songs are shorter and more direct than on For You. 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' became his first big hit and reached number one on the American R&B chart, 'I Feel For You' turned into a worldwide hit five years later in Chaka Khan's version, and 'Bambi' was the first time he showed how hard his guitar could sound.
