Anthology 1 originally appeared in 1995 as the first volume of the Anthology series, tied to the documentary project of the same name about The Beatles. The album gathered early recordings, demos, alternative takes and live material from the 1958-1964 period, including recordings from the 1962 Decca audition. It opened with Free as a Bird, a John Lennon demo completed by the three surviving Beatles under the production of Jeff Lynne, which won a Grammy Award in 1997. Some of the material still dated from before the departure of Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best from the band. Anthology 1 reached number one on the Billboard 200. This release is a 3-LP on black vinyl.
