On The Last DJ, originally released in 2002, Tom Petty settles accounts with the music industry and with tightly formatted radio. The title track is about a disc jockey who refuses to play the playlist he is handed, and Money Becomes King and Joe carry the theme further. A number of American radio stations declined to programme the song. Musically it is quieter than the albums before it, with string arrangements and a large role for Benmont Tench's piano; Can't Stop The Sun closes on almost seven minutes that point back to the sixties rather than to 2002. The album entered the American charts at number 9. This edition is a 2-LP.
