Balance originally came out in January 1995 as Van Halen's tenth studio album, and the last with Sammy Hagar before he left in 1996. Bruce Fairbairn produced the sessions in Vancouver; drummer Alex Van Halen played wearing a neck brace after damaging two vertebrae. Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do), Amsterdam, Can't Stop Lovin' You and the ballad Not Enough were released as singles, and alongside the heavy opener The Seventh Seal the album holds two instrumentals, Strung Out and Baluchitherium. It reached number one on the Billboard 200, the fourth in a row for the Hagar line-up.
