For their third album Arctic Monkeys headed for the desert: much of Humbug was recorded in 2009 at Rancho de la Luna in Joshua Tree with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age producing, supplemented by sessions in New York overseen by James Ford. The result is slower and darker than the first two albums, with low, distorted guitars and Alex Turner's lyrics turning dreamier and more cryptic. Crying Lightning and Cornerstone were the singles; Pretty Visitors is the track that stays closest to the band's old tempo. On release the album divided the fans, but in the UK it still entered at number 1. This edition is an LP.
