The Magic Whip grew out of five days of studio time in Hong Kong in May 2013, after a cancelled festival left Blur with an unexpected gap in the schedule. Graham Coxon later worked those sessions up into a full album with Stephen Street, the band's eighth studio record and the first since Think Tank on which he plays a full part. The Asian setting runs through the lyrics, from the neon streets of "Lonesome Street" to the visit to North Korea behind "Pyongyang". "Go Out" led the way as the first single. The album, originally released in 2015 on Parlophone, entered at number 1 in the UK.
