On ...And Justice for All Metallica pushed the complexity further: long, interlocking song structures, little room for melody and a dry, hard production in which newcomer Jason Newsted's bass is barely audible — a mixing decision still argued over today. The album originally appeared in September 1988 and was the first the band made after the death of Cliff Burton. Alongside Blackened, Harvester of Sorrow and the title track stands One, about a gravely wounded soldier, which gave Metallica their first music video and their first Grammy.
