Josh Davis, better known as DJ Shadow, built his debut album entirely from samples, largely dug out of the basement of a Sacramento record shop and assembled on an Akai MPC60. Guinness World Records later recognised Endtroducing..... as the first album made completely from samples. The result is instrumental hip-hop that shifts between breakbeats, cinematic strings, jazz fragments and dark ambient.

Well-known tracks include "Building Steam With a Grain of Salt", "Organ Donor", "Midnight in a Perfect World" and "Stem/Long Stem". The album was originally released in 1996 on Mo' Wax.
