Imagine was John Lennon's second solo album, originally released in 1971 on Apple Records. He recorded it at Ascot Sound Studios by his house in Tittenhurst and in New York, with George Harrison on guitar, Klaus Voormann on bass, Nicky Hopkins on piano, and Phil Spector co-producing alongside Lennon and Yoko Ono. It sounds fuller and more melodic than his stripped-back debut: strings on the title track, and King Curtis on saxophone on It's So Hard and I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier Mama. The lyrics deal with peace and doubt, and on How Do You Sleep? Lennon settles a score with Paul McCartney. The album reached number 1 in both the United Kingdom and the United States, and in 2012 Rolling Stone placed it at number 80 on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.
