The title reads like a football score and nods to the band's home city of Hull: Paul Heaton joked that The Housemartins were only the fourth-best band in Hull, which did not say much for London. London 0 Hull 4 is the foursome's debut album, with Heaton, Stan Cullimore, Hugh Whitaker and the future Fatboy Slim, Norman Cook, on bass. Beneath the cheerful guitar pop sit sharp lyrics, fed by Heaton's interest in Christianity and Marxism. 'Happy Hour' reached number three on the UK singles chart and the album also peaked at number 3 there; 'Sheep' and 'Think for a Minute' were released as singles too.

This edition is an LP on cyan vinyl, the National Album Day edition.
