Pearl is Janis Joplin's second and final solo album, and the only one she recorded with the Full Tilt Boogie Band. Producer Paul Rothchild gave the group a tight, soul-oriented sound, with organ and piano sitting close beneath her voice. Joplin died before the sessions were finished: 'Buried Alive In The Blues' appears as an instrumental because she never got to add the vocal, and 'Mercedes Benz' is a short a cappella recording. Kris Kristofferson's 'Me And Bobby McGee' posthumously became her only number one single, and the album spent nine weeks at the top of the Billboard 200.

This edition is an LP, the National Album Day edition.
