A Dramatic Turn of Events is Dream Theater's eleventh studio album, originally released in 2011. It was the first record following the departure of co-founder and drummer Mike Portnoy, and the studio debut of his successor Mike Mangini. The opener 'On the Backs of Angels' and the sprawling 'Breaking All Illusions' show the band holding on to long, multi-part compositions, while 'Far from Heaven' brings calm with piano and vocals. Petrucci, Myung, Rudess and LaBrie sound tighter here than the line-up change might have suggested.
