72 Seasons appeared on 14 April 2023 as Metallica's eleventh studio album and its first full set of new material since 2016's Hardwired... To Self-Destruct. Producer Greg Fidelman again worked alongside James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. Across twelve tracks and more than 77 minutes the band returns to tight, thrash-oriented writing, led off by the single "Lux Æterna." The lyrics circle the formative years of youth to which the album title refers.
