After three albums on Black Mark, Necrophobic moved to Hammerheart Records. Bloodhymns, originally released in 2002, is the fourth studio album and the first to appear on that label. Johan Bergebäck had just joined as second guitarist alongside Sebastian Ramstedt, with Tobias Sidegård on vocals and bass and Joakim Sterner on drums. The ten tracks, among them "Taste of Black", "Shadowseeds", and "Blood Anthem", mostly keep to a high tempo. Dan Swanö remastered the album at Unisound Studio for the 2022 reissue.
