New Order wrote 'Shellshock' in 1986 for the soundtrack to John Hughes' film Pretty in Pink, together with producer John Robie. It is one of the most openly dance-oriented tracks of that period: a tight sequencer pattern, plenty of percussion and a chorus that connected on the American dance charts. The 12-inch carries the long version of almost eight minutes, with the instrumental reworking 'Shellcock' on the B-side. The song did not appear on a studio album but was later collected on compilations such as Substance. This edition is a 12-inch single.
