Diary of a Madman originally appeared in 1981 as Ozzy Osbourne's second solo album. It is the last studio album with Randy Rhoads, who died in a plane crash in March 1982. Over the Mountain opens with a drum intro, Flying High Again became a fixture in Osbourne's live sets, and the title track closes with choral singing and orchestrated passages. Where Blizzard of Ozz still sounded raw, the scope here is wider, with more room for Rhoads' multi-tracked guitar parts. Bassist Bob Daisley and drummer Lee Kerslake played the sessions but were left off the original sleeve credits.
