Led Zeppelin II was largely made on the move: between tour dates in the United States and Britain the band committed pieces of it to tape in shifting studios, with Jimmy Page and engineer Eddie Kramer handling the mix. The second studio album originally came out in October 1969. Opener 'Whole Lotta Love' turns on a single riff and drops away halfway through into a collage of theremin, echo and moaning before pulling itself back together. Elsewhere there is 'Heartbreaker' with its unaccompanied guitar solo, the acoustic-to-electric swell of 'Ramble On', the drum feature 'Moby Dick' and 'Thank You', on which John Paul Jones takes a prominent organ part for the first time. Rolling Stone placed the album at number 123 on its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. This edition is the deluxe edition, a 2-LP.
