Roxy Music

Roxy Music formed in London in 1970 around singer Bryan Ferry, with saxophonist Andy Mackay, guitarist Phil Manzanera, drummer Paul Thompson and, until 1973, Brian Eno on synthesizers. The 1972 debut and For Your Pleasure set the tone: art rock with a layer of glamour, where theatrical songs like Virginia Plain and Do the Strand sit next to long, darker pieces. After Stranded, Country Life and Siren, with the hit Love Is the Drug, the band put its work on hold. The second period brought Manifesto, Flesh and Blood and the smooth, atmospheric Avalon from 1982, after which Roxy Music called it a day in 1983. The band later returned for reunion tours, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019 and toured in 2022 to mark its fiftieth anniversary.
