Lovedrive marked the start of the phase in which Scorpions broke through internationally, in 1979. Uli Jon Roth had left, Matthias Jabs took over lead guitar and Michael Schenker returned as a guest on three tracks, including the instrumental title piece and Coast to Coast. Loving You Sunday Morning, Always Somewhere and Holiday showed how the band set hard riffs and melodic ballads side by side, the formula that would carry the 1980s. The original 1979 album was the first Scorpions record to enter the American top 100, at number 55; the sleeve by design studio Hipgnosis was replaced in several countries. This edition is a remastered 180 gram LP on transparent red vinyl.
