'Boys Don't Cry' came out in 1979 as The Cure's second single and became one of the best-known songs of the band's early work. In 1986 Robert Smith recorded a new vocal for it and the track was remixed; that version, the 86 Mix, finally gave the song the chart placing the original had missed. Around it sit the longer 12-inch mix and three early B-sides: 'Plastic Passion' in its 1979 mix, and 'Pillbox Tales' and 'Do the Hansa' in their 86 mixes. Matt Colton remastered the audio forty years after the original 86 version.
