Whitney Houston was 21 when her self-titled debut appeared, assembled by Arista head Clive Davis from sessions with Michael Masser, Kashif, and Narada Michael Walden, among others. The ballads "Saving All My Love For You" and "Greatest Love Of All" put her gospel background to work in radio pop, while "How Will I Know" headed for the dance floor. All three reached number one in the United States. The album originally came out in 1985, spent fourteen weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 in 1986, and earned her a Grammy for "Saving All My Love For You".
