Fifteen years after Before the Frost...Until the Freeze, Chris and Rich Robinson made an album of new material again. Happiness Bastards was recorded in Nashville in early 2023 with producer Jay Joyce, with former bassist Sven Pipien back in the line-up, and appeared in March 2024 on the band's own Silver Arrow label. The ten songs are kept short and direct: Bedside Manners and Wanting And Waiting turn on riff and chorus, and country singer Lainey Wilson joins in on the ballad Wilted Rose. The album followed the 2019 reunion and the world tour marking thirty years of Shake Your Money Maker.
