The Eternal Idol originally dates from 1987 and was the first Black Sabbath album with singer Tony Martin. It came together in a turbulent period in which guitarist Tony Iommi was the only remaining original member and the line-up changed constantly; the vocals were first recorded by Ray Gillen and later re-recorded by Martin. Musically it leans on solid, melodic heavy metal with Martin's powerful voice, on tracks such as 'The Shining' and the title track.
