For As Time Goes By, originally released in 1999, Bryan Ferry went into the song repertoire of the 1930s: standards by Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and Kurt Weill, recorded with a small orchestra and arranged in the style of the period. Most people know the title song from Casablanca, and Miss Otis Regrets, September Song and Falling in Love Again pass by as well. Ferry sings them straight and without irony, with plenty of room for the horns, which puts the album closer to a jazz record than to his own pop work.
