Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends was Coldplay's fourth studio album and originally appeared in 2008, produced by Brian Eno and Markus Dravs among others. The band chose a broader and more experimental sound than on earlier albums. Its themes were life, death, war, and revolution. The sleeve used Eugène Delacroix's painting La Liberté guidant le peuple. The title track Viva la Vida became Coldplay's first number one single in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Violet Hill and Lost! were the other singles. In 2009 the album won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
