Greatest Hits originally appeared in 2001 as a compilation album by The Cure and marked the end of the band's time with Fiction Records. Robert Smith put the track listing together himself, drawing on the years 1979 to 2001. The album gathered staples such as Boys Don't Cry, A Forest, Close to Me, Just Like Heaven, Lullaby, Lovesong and Friday I'm in Love. Two new songs were added as well: Cut Here, written in memory of Billy MacKenzie of The Associates, and Just Say Yes.
