Greatest Hits was originally released in 2001 as a compilation album by The Cure and marked the end of the band's period with Fiction Records. Robert Smith compiled the tracklist himself, with songs from the period 1979 to 2001. The album featured classics such as Boys Don't Cry, A Forest, Close to Me, Just Like Heaven, Lullaby, Lovesong and Friday I'm in Love. It also included two new songs: Cut Here, written in memory of Billy MacKenzie of The Associates, and Just Say Yes.
