Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is an autobiographical concept album on which Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin recount, in chronological order, their lean early years as a songwriting duo in London. Originally released in 1975, it opened with the title track and included 'Someone Saved My Life Tonight', which looked back on a period when John was at his lowest. On release it entered the US Billboard 200 straight at number one — the first album ever to do so. Gus Dudgeon produced, as he did on nearly all of John's classics from those years.
