The Snake was a 1972 solo album by the American guitarist Harvey Mandel, nicknamed "The Snake". Mandel made his name as a member of Canned Heat and as a session guitarist, and was regarded as an innovator in the use of sustain, feedback and tapping. The largely instrumental album combines blues, rock and jazzy improvisation. Musicians such as violinist Don "Sugarcane" Harris and flautist Charles Lloyd contributed to the recordings. The Snake showcases Mandel's distinctive, fluid guitar tone and his drive to experiment.
