The Broadsword and the Beast, originally released in 1982, set the British folk side of Jethro Tull next to the synthesizers that were turning up everywhere at the time. Keyboard player Peter-John Vettese made his debut on this album and left his mark on 'Clasp' and 'Fallen on Hard Times', while 'Broadsword' and 'Beastie' reach back to Norse imagery, as does Iain McCaig's sleeve illustration. The rest of the line-up was Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, bassist Dave Pegg and drummer Gerry Conway. This anniversary box brings the album in a Steven Wilson stereo remix together with recordings from the same sessions and the Maison Rouge demos. This edition is a 4-LP box, released as a limited fortieth-anniversary edition.
