The Cry of Love originally appeared in 1971 and was the first album to be released after the death of Jimi Hendrix. Engineer Eddie Kramer and drummer Mitch Mitchell assembled it from recordings Hendrix made in 1970 at his own Electric Lady Studios for a double album he never finished. The material shows where he was heading after Electric Ladyland: the funk rhythms of Freedom and Ezy Ryder, the ballad Angel, and the acoustic Belly Button Window as a closing track. Billy Cox plays bass on much of the material, with Mitchell on drums. The same sessions were rearranged in 1997 into First Rays of the New Rising Sun. This edition is an LP.
