Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers originally came out in 2022, five years after DAMN. and as Kendrick Lamar's last album for Top Dawg Entertainment. The double album is set largely in the therapy room: Lamar works through infidelity, generational trauma, the messiah role fans pushed onto him, and the silence inside his own family. On We Cry Together he acts out a domestic argument with actress Taylour Paige, Auntie Diaries deals with two transgender relatives, and Beth Gibbons of Portishead sings the hook on Mother I Sober. Production came from Sounwave, DJ Dahi, Beach Noise, and Lamar himself, with guests including Baby Keem, Sampha, Blxst, Kodak Black, and Ghostface Killah. It won the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2023.
