For the first time, a Led Zeppelin album consisted entirely of the band's own compositions. Houses of the Holy, originally released in March 1973, is the fifth studio album and the one that looks furthest sideways: 'D'yer Mak'er' leans on reggae rhythm and 'The Crunge' on James Brown-style funk, while 'The Rain Song' works with mellotron and 'No Quarter' rides on John Paul Jones's electric piano. Alongside those sit the opener 'The Song Remains the Same', 'Over the Hills and Far Away' and the closing 'The Ocean'. The title track is missing, incidentally: 'Houses of the Holy' only surfaced on Physical Graffiti. The sleeve, a Hipgnosis design photographed at the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, caused a stir in several countries. This edition is an LP, with a replica backstage pass.
