'Cool Cat' is a Queen song that originally appeared on the 1982 album Hot Space. It was written by Freddie Mercury and bassist John Deacon and fits the funk- and disco-oriented direction the band took on that record. Mercury sings largely in falsetto over a tight, minimal groove. The track shows the more danceable, Black-music-influenced side of Queen in the early 1980s, a period in which the group moved away from its rock sound.
