Who's Next is what survived of Lifehouse, the science-fiction project Pete Townshend never finished in 1971: with producer Glyn Johns the strongest songs were assembled into a straightforward studio album after all. The synthesiser loops under 'Baba O'Riley' and 'Won't Get Fooled Again' were unheard of in rock at the time, and 'Behind Blue Eyes', 'The Song Is Over' and Entwistle's 'My Wife' show how far the band had moved from the mod singles. The album originally appeared in 1971 on Track Records, with the sleeve showing the four members turning away from a concrete block on a colliery site near Easington. This edition is a 4-LP: the remastered album plus the complete concert the band played at the Civic Auditorium in San Francisco in December 1971.
