Jar of Flies is the third EP by Alice In Chains, originally released in January 1994 on Columbia. The band wrote and recorded it in about a week at London Bridge Studio in Seattle, largely acoustic and with strings, and it was the first release with bassist Mike Inez. The sound is calmer and more open than on Dirt, heard in 'Rotten Apple', 'Nutshell', and 'Whale & Wasp'. 'No Excuses', 'I Stay Away', and 'Don't Follow' were issued as radio singles. Jar of Flies became the first EP ever to enter the Billboard 200 at number 1 and was certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA.
