When Fleetwood Mac started work in Sausalito in early 1976 on the follow-up to Fleetwood Mac, two relationships inside the band had collapsed: Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks had split up, and John and Christine McVie were in the middle of a divorce. That situation became the subject of the lyrics. Rumours, originally released in 1977, turns the tension into clear, close-harmony pop songs: 'Go Your Own Way', 'Dreams', 'The Chain', 'Don't Stop', 'Songbird' and 'Gold Dust Woman'. The album won the 1978 Grammy for Album of the Year and, with tens of millions of copies sold, ranks among the best-selling albums ever made.
