Rocket to Russia was the Ramones' third album and originally appeared in November 1977. The budget was larger than on the first two albums, and it shows: the guitars sound fuller and the melodies sit further forward. "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker", "Rockaway Beach", and "Teenage Lobotomy" are among the band's best-known songs, and the covers of "Do You Wanna Dance?" and "Surfin' Bird" show how close the Ramones stood to sixties surf and bubblegum pop. "Rockaway Beach" became their highest-charting US single. The album landed in the same weeks that the British punk wave reached its peak.
