Station to Station originally appeared in January 1976 and was David Bowie's tenth studio album. Here he introduced the Thin White Duke, a sharply dressed, ice-cold crooner figure who lends the music its detached tone. The sound moves on from the American soul of Young Americans towards something colder and more European, with funk grooves and the motorik influence of German bands like Kraftwerk and Neu!; the title track builds over more than ten minutes from the sound of a train into a danceable finale. 'Golden Years' and 'TVC 15' became the best-known songs. Recorded in Los Angeles, the album forms the bridge to the later Berlin trilogy.
