Radio Free Europe was R.E.M.'s debut single in 1981, recorded with producer Mitch Easter and issued on the small Hib-Tone label. For this 2025 EP, Jacknife Lee, who produced later albums by the band, made a new remix that pushes the bassline and the cowbell to the front. The release also gathers the original Hib-Tone recordings of Radio Free Europe and Sitting Still, the previously cassette-only Wh. Tornado, and Radio Free Dub, a remix Easter made in 1981 that had never been released. Craft Recordings put the EP out in 2025 to benefit the broadcaster Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, which marked its 75th year. This edition is a 10-inch EP on orange translucent vinyl.
