It was produced by Rick Rubin and recorded in an old Los Angeles mansion, with the line-up of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frusciante and Chad Smith. The album marked the band's commercial breakthrough and blends funk, rock and more restrained ballads. Well-known tracks include 'Give It Away', 'Under the Bridge', 'Suck My Kiss' and 'Breaking the Girl'.
