Michael Kiwanuka largely produced Fudge himself, in a studio near his home in Southampton and with multi-instrumentalist Joe Connell, without his regular producers Danger Mouse and Inflo. Shortly after the sessions he suffered a haemorrhagic stroke in July 2025, after which producer Dom Monks and string arranger Rosie Danvers finished the work. Kiwanuka's fifth studio album follows on from 2024's Small Changes, with muted rhythms, warm guitars and sweeping strings around his voice. Summer Clothes was the first single, and the album also includes California and Love In My Heart. NME called it 'a deeply poignant glimpse at the creative state before a life-altering moment'. Fudge was released on 23 October 2026.
