Dirt, released in 1992, was the second studio album by Alice in Chains and is regarded as a high point of Seattle grunge. The record is dark and heavy, with lyrics about addiction, pain, depression and war. Well-known tracks include "Rooster", "Would?", "Down in a Hole" and "Them Bones". The distinctive harmonies between singer Layne Staley and guitarist Jerry Cantrell give the music a haunting, suffocated atmosphere. The album is seen as one of the most influential rock records of the decade and as a key work by the band.
