Heaven Tonight from 1978 opens with Surrender, the song that became Cheap Trick's calling card. On this third album, originally released on Epic, the Illinois band struck its balance between power pop melodies and hard rock guitars, and it was the first album to feature bassist Tom Petersson's twelve-string bass. In Japan it caught on so strongly that the Budokan concerts followed, making the band world famous.
